Seward residents now have more flexibility when it comes to dropping off their recyclables.
The Seward Recycling Center has changed its hours and is now open from 8 a.m. Friday through 3 p.m. on Monday.
“It gives four days, 24 hours each day, and it’s on a weekend also,” said Street/Transportation and Recycling Superintendent Bob Miers. “There should be plenty of time for anybody who needs to go down there.”
The center was previously open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. It was closed Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.
Miers said the change came after people called asking whether the recycling center could be open 24 hours a day. While the city cannot afford to keep it open around the clock every day of the week, the new schedule provides an extended window for residents.
“You don’t have to hurry up at a certain time,” he said. “You got four days of any time during the day or night you want to go down there.”
The center has bins for cardboard, plastics and paper. It does not accept glass, oil or batteries.
The bins are emptied every other Thursday.
Miers reminded residents that recyclable items should be clean and not covered in food.
Recycling is simple and provides an environmental benefit.
“It’s a feel-good thing for people,” he said.
