A Seward senior living community earned national attention for the care, comfort and connection it provides residents every day.
Greene Place, also called Greene Senior Living, was recognized by U.S. News and World Report, which determines its rankings based on feedback from residents and their families.
Greene Place was rated high performing nationwide in six categories: "food and dining, staff and management, activities and enrichment, care services and feels like home.”
Executive Director Bobby Hall said the award reinforces the quality of care and environment at Greene Place. He joined the team about two months ago and already loves the facility.
Hall said the Greene Place community feels like a family.
“We have family night once a month, as well, and there’s probably 50 to 70 people that come to that,” Hall said. “We feed everybody, we have performers, and we’re very welcoming and always available.”
Greene Place has 30 apartments, and trained staff members are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each resident has an individualized care plan.
“The residents are first in mind for safety,” Hall said. “And, our services are tailored per person – it’s not just a blanket service that everyone gets the same thing. We can really specialize in each person to make them feel like they’re home.”
Hall said Greene Place also works to personalize dining options for residents.
“Since we’re a smaller establishment, we’re able to kind of tailor what we’re offering on our menu,” he said. “So, we have our set, ‘Here’s what’s on the menu tonight,’ but if that’s not what you’re feeling, then it’s ’What are you feeling?’ We can get creative with it.”
Activities are another major part of life at Greene Place. The facility hosts four to six activities each day, including performances by bands, choirs and swing dancers, along with bingo, crafts, movies, exercise classes, car shows, grill-outs and more.
Even pets are welcome to visit the facility.
During the school year, a group of students from Seward Public Schools volunteers at Greene Place two days each week. The students interact with residents and assist staff with serving food and cleaning up. Hall said this is a great benefit for both the students and the residents.
Greene Place resident Rosella Schwehr said her favorite activities are bingo and music-related events.
“I love having all the friends here at Greene,” she said. “Everyone gets along.”
Schwehr said the facility is safe and clean, and it feels welcoming and comfortable from the moment she walks through the doors. She also enjoys the food.
“When I heard Greene was named Best Assisted Living, I could see why we were named it, and it made me proud,” she said.
