New sports make way to Fun Days

Kickball and pickleball tournaments will be held at Milford Fun Days on Friday, Aug. 19, beginning at 5 p.m.

Neither of these events have been featured at Fun Days in recent years, and Erika Stauffer of the Milford Chamber of Commerce said they were added to the schedule in hopes of bringing more competition to Milford Fun Days and catering to a wider age group.

“There’s a lot of things [at Milford Fun Days] geared toward younger kids, and there’s not a lot geared toward that junior high/high school age. So, I feel like this will kind of get them involved and hopefully excited to be a part of Fun Days as well,” Stauffer said.

Pickleball has grown in local popularity over the last few years, so it seemed like the perfect thing to add to Fun Days, Stauffer said.

It will be a double-elimination tournament held at the high school tennis court, and there will be a prize for the winner.

Participants must be 14 years or older and will play in teams of two. A registration fee of $20 per team will be charged, and the money will go back to the chamber, Stauffer said.

The tournament has a 32-team limit.

The kickball tournament will also be double-elimination, and each team will be made up of five girls and five boys.

A fee of $15 per player will be charged, and proceeds will go toward the Milford High School post-prom fundraiser. The tournament will be held at the Welch Park softball fields.

Stauffer said she looks forward to seeing participants enjoy all that Milford Fun Days has to offer.

“It’s always fun to see your work with the board coming together and then see the finished product and see it all turn full circle,” she said.
