The 40th annual car show at the Seward County Historical Society Museum will feature something new.
The museum recently accepted an aqua blue 1967 AMC Ambassador in pristine condition, SCHS Board President Dick Rhodes said.
Its previous owner, Lloyd Lindstrom, always came to the car show. He died 24 years ago and the vehicle was placed in controlled storage. His sons, now in their 70s, wanted to do something special with the car to honor their father.
“They liked the way we had the museum set up,” Rhodes said. “They had tears when they left it there. It takes a special person to have so much love and respect for their dad.”
The Ambassador has just 32,000 miles on it and is spotless, he said. The color is not often seen on cars any more.
“There’s so much chrome. It has a lot of character,” he said.
Rhodes said the car show was a deciding factor for the family, as well.
Lindstrom paid $3,200 for the vehicle when he bought it in Denver, and the sticker is still on the window. Nothing has been done to the car – it’s in original condition.
Although the family lived in the country and had about a half mile to drive on gravel, the sons said their dad never drove more than 5 miles per hour to keep the car in great condition.
“It’s been a lot of fun having it so far,” Rhodes said. “It will be on display at the car show.”
The annual car show will be Sunday, Oct. 4, at the museum in Goehner. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to noon, with the show going from noon to 4 p.m. Prizes will be given in a variety of categories.
A lunch stand will be open with pulled pork, brats, chips, desserts and drinks available. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the trains of the Chippewa Northwestern Railway will run from 1:30-4 p.m., as well.
