Milford FFA competed in the District 5 Leadership Development Events (LDEs) held Dec. 17 at Concordia University in Seward. The day was highlighted by the performance of Natalie Nutzman who for the third straight year took home first place in Natural Resources Speaking.
Nutzman’s speech this year was over the “Silent Pollinators” that help make our crops and other plants possible. Chris Wissenburg also presented a speech in the area of natural resources and received a blue ribbon.
In employment skills, Milford FFA had a full contingent of three competitors. Jay Wissenburg received a purple ribbon and made the finals where he was one of six. Ayla Sailstean also received a purple ribbon for her effort, and Sadie Frazier received a blue for her first try at the contest.
In the area of Senior Public Speaking, Heath Bacon received a red ribbon. Milford also had two Extemporaneous speakers, Micah Brinkmeyer (blue) and Maddie Burianek (white).
And finally for the first time in a long time Milford FFA was able to field a Senior Parliamentary procedure team which received a white ribbon for its efforts. The team was led at the president’s position by Jay Wissenburg and followed by members Heath Bacon, Sadye Hill, Josey Maas, Layla Whitford and Kenley Taylor.
Many of the contests have 20-40 competitors each or 10-15 teams for team events. Advisor Jim Wissenburg congratulated all the Milford FFA members who were willing to put in all the extra work and time to participate in some of the FFA’s most challenging contests.
Nutzman will now represent District 5 and Milford FFA at the State FFA Convention in March.
