Papers win awards at annual contest

Nebraska’s newspapers came together April 25-26 for the annual Nebraska Press Association convention and to learn the winners in the Better Newspaper Competition.

The competition is divided by circulation and includes categories ranging from photography to writing to advertising. Milford is in Division A, and Seward is in Division D.

The Seward County Independent earned third place in General Excellence, a category that includes all aspects of the newspaper.

“As the world changes around us, we have to continue to change what we are reporting and how it is being delivered. We have to keep up on advertising and marketing trends and again how we deliver these messages.

“Our staff has proven again that we are doing this well,” owner/publisher Kevin L. Zadina said. “We were honored with numerous awards at the Nebraska Press Annual Convention. The contest was judged by our peers from the North Carolina Press Association, and I appreciate the hard work that our staff puts in to create a community newspaper each week.”
