The Pleasant Dale American Legion Auxiliary Unit 354 met Feb. 16. President Kathy Ptacek opened the regular meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the Star-Spangled Banner, a prayer, and the reciting of the Preamble. Fifteen members were present.
The Undraping of the Charter for Anne Hohnstein was held and concluded with a prayer.
The District Convention will be Saturday, March 14, at the Seward Civic Center, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. and the meeting at 9 a.m. The county convention will be Sunday, March 15, at the Garland Legion Hall, with registration at 1 p.m. and the meeting at 1:30 p.m.
County officer rotation was discussed and Deb Schneider was nominated as county vice president, if it is decided at convention that Pleasant Dale will fill that office. The motion was seconded and carried.
Celebration of America's 250th birthday was discussed further, and Erin Jurgens and Nancy Smith volunteered to serve on the committee
The juniors met Feb. 7 and made Valentine bags that were delivered to veterans at Sunrise Country Manor.
Girls state applications have been submitted from the unit to the department, as Pleasant Dale plans to sponsor two students.
Americanism essays have been collected from Malcolm schools and the last book for the Give-10 project was purchased for both Malcolm and Milford school libraries. Klintworth Scholarship applications are due to the unit by April 1.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 16, at 6 p.m.
