Pleasant Dale ALA to assist in Community Day events

The Pleasant Dale American Legion Auxiliary met June 16 with 20 members and nine guests present.

The meeting was opened with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing the Star-Spangled Banner, a prayer led by the chaplain, and reading of the Preamble of the American Legion Auxiliary Constitution, followed by reports and discussion.

On Memorial Day, auxiliary members and juniors helped with the ceremonies. Cheryl Witzel placed the wreath at the Malcolm Cemetery, Dakota Boyer placed the wreath at the Pleasant Dale Cemetery and Dakota Boyer carried the flag at the Malcolm Cemetery. Annette Pankoke carried the flag at the Pleasant Dale Cemetery. Lunch was served at the legion hall to Milford High band members, legionnaires and community members.

Joyce Forst put poppy containers around Milford on June 13 and 16 in observance of Flag Day.

The Pleasant Dale Fire Department will sponsor a Community Day on Saturday, June 28. Auxiliary members will sell lunch, dinner and refreshments. Activities include firefighter water fights, a street dance, Bingo and more. The Pleasant Dale Fire Department Facebook page has more details.

Department Convention is June 26-29 at the Quality Inn in Columbus. There will be a fireworks show on Thursday, July 3.

Linda Anderson thanked all those who stepped in while she was recovering. She has purchased the Purple-Up gifts and will distribute them now that she is better.

Regarding Girls State, Anderson, Erin Jurgens, Michelle Richards and Nancy Smith participated in vote counting. They witnessed the attendees building friendships and a better understanding of community and government functions. The P Dale Unit sponsored Zoey Whitford from Milford High and Alaina Wilcox from Malcolm High.

The participants collected enough plastic grocery bags to make 10 sleeping mats for the homeless.

Membership recognition certificates were presented to the following members: 40-year member, Rose Topil; 20-year members, Jolene Zochol and Susan Wulfekoetter; 10-year members, Lora Frecks, Mary Frecks, Shana Kinnison, Shea Kinnison, Sara LaBrie, Shyla LaBrie, Vicki Piening, Janice Trease and Rose Wiechert.
