SCCDP releases quarterly report for beginning of 2023

The Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership recently released its quarterly report of activities from the past three months.

Highlights of the organization’s work in Seward County include:

• a Nebraska Public Power District Site Ready Assistance Program grant for a 24-acre commercial development property

• disbursed $1.26 million in Rural Workforce Housing Funds to close out 2022. Four different housing projects in Milford, Seward and Utica will create 91 new housing units with a total investment of $15,753,190.

• submitted proposals for an insect protein manufacturer, feed mill, dairy processor and ag manufacturer to come to or expand in Seward County.

• staff attended the Mid-America Economic Development Council Competitiveness Conference in Chicago, Community Venture Network in Minnesota and Economix Conference in Columbus, Ohio, to interact with nationwide site selectors, expanding companies and professional colleagues.

• partnered with ALLO to apply for more than $5 million of the Nebraska Capital Projects Fund for constructing additional fiber optic networks in rural Seward County.

• distributed approximately $36,900 of the $78,500 of Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations funding to help child care providers to expand capacity.

• received preliminary plat approval for a 14-lot residential subdivision in Utica.

• worked with Concordia business students to research feasibility of a new senior care facility in Utica.

• sold $53,004 in Seward County Gift Cards since the program launched in June 2022.

• hosted the 12th annual Christmas Festival, an arts and business professional development luncheon, the annual SCCDP awards banquet and ribbon cuttings for three new or expanding businesses.

• connected resources for LB840, tax increment financing, grants and available spaces to companies wanting to start or expand businesses in Seward County, including two gas stations/convenience stores, a construction company, a chiropractor, three housing developers, a dance and arts studio, an event space, kids’ entertainment venue, ag production company, grocery store, two restaurants, a clothing store, a manufacturer, a preschool, two warehousing companies, a downtown building developer, an employment services nonprofit and a commercial building developer.
