Scorching week expected

Summer is starting to heat up in Nebraska as the forecast shows a chance of temperatures breaking the 100-degree mark on Wednesday and Thursday.

Brett Albright of the National Weather Service talked about the high temperatures and why these are happening.

“Currently there’s a big ridge out west,” Albright said. “The ridge is expected to tilt up through the plains and creep up on us on Wednesday.”

The temperatures are expected to be so hot that they have the chance to break records.

“The highs for Wednesday and Thursday have the possibility of breaking some record highs for this month,” Albright said. “We will definitely be getting close in some areas, like Omaha and Lincoln.”

Although the heat will be scorching, Albright said it isn’t expected to last very long.

“There will be a front moving in late Thursday night, so we should see the heat break on Friday,” Albright said. “There’s also a possibility of rain this weekend, so that should help moisten things up again.”
