Nextlink Internet is proud to announce a major milestone in its mission to expand digital opportunity with the arrival of new laptops and tablets for the Digital Empowerment Center in Seward.

These devices are furnished through the valued partner of Nextlink Internet, Human I-T, a nonprofit designed to create accessibility between people and technology. These devices will provide residents with access to essential technology and resources that drive education, innovation and opportunity. Human I-T’s unwavering commitment to digital inclusion ensures that communities like Seward have the tools they need to thrive in today’s connected world.

“Receiving these devices for our Digital Empowerment Center in Seward marks a major step toward expanding digital opportunities. Thanks to our incredible partner, Human I-T, we’re equipping the community with tools that unlock access and foster growth. Together, we’re turning connectivity into empowerment,” said Ebony Cooksey, the Market Development Manager & Government Affairs Coordinator for Nextlink Internet.

Nextlink Internet has been partnering with the Seward County Chamber & Development Partnership (SCCDP) to make the Digital Empowerment Center a reality but also use it to its fullest potential and purpose.

One of the purposes of the Digital Empowerment Center is to host free workshops for community members about various technology topics such as basic device navigation, Internet safety and others. The devices donated by Human I-T will allow workshop attendees to work in real time with the digital navigator presenting the workshop to allow for better hands-on learning. These devices are open to people of any age, but the workshops have primarily been focused on seniors.

“These devices are a crucial next step in making Seward County a tech entrepreneurship ecosystem,” Jonathan Jank, SCCDP President & CEO, said.

There have been five workshops since the ribbon cutting for the Digital Empowerment Center in April 2025. Workshops are not the only purpose of the Digital Empowerment Center. The space also has offered two open office hours where people can bring their devices that need repaired. In the future, the Center hopes to provide a location for remote employees to work.

Whether it’s through the inclusion of digital devices to be used during workshops, open office hours or other possibilities, the overarching goal of the Digital Empowerment Center is to create understanding, comfortability and increased knowledge of technology to improve the lives of Seward County citizens.
