Shows move on schedule

Not only is the Seward County Fair at a different time this year, the 4-H animal show schedule is different, as well.

The week begins with the 4-H horse show Monday and Tuesday, July 21 and 22, at the rodeo arena. Monday’s show begins at 8 a.m. and includes all the classes but the games. The games (barrels, keyhole, etc.) begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

On Wednesday, July 23, shows begin with dogs at 8 a.m. at the Reunion Center. Small animals take the spotlight at 2 p.m. in the 4-H Center, followed by cats at 3 p.m., also in the 4-H Center.

Thursday, July 24, is a full day. The rabbit show kicks things off at 8 a.m. at the Small Animal Barn. At 9 a.m., hogs will fill the show arena at the Livestock Center, with the dairy goat show set for 2 p.m. and the meat goat show to start at 3 p.m., both in the Livestock Center.

Poultry begin the day Friday, July 25, with their show at 8 a.m. at the Small Animal Barn. The dairy cattle show starts at 9 a.m. in the Livestock Center. The sheep show starts at 2 p.m., also in the Livestock Center.

The beef show finishes out the contests Saturday, July 26, starting at 8:15 a.m. with beef production.

The 4-H award show is Saturday, July 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H Center. The overall showmanship contest is Saturday at 4 p.m. featuring the top senior showmen in beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat goats and dairy goats.
