Synergy Showcase to join education, industry

Seward County’s Rising Stars are hoping to show off the skills and talents of the county’s future workforce at the Seward County Synergy Showcase on Wednesday, March 27.

The event will function as a “reverse career fair,” in which employers and the general public are invited to learn more about what upcoming high school graduates have to offer.

The showcase will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Harvest Hall on the Seward County Fairgrounds.

Rising Stars is a group of six young professionals working to enhance their leadership skills as they relate to the community, employers and employees within the county.

The Rising Stars program is in its second year, with new professionals taking part each year.

Kierra Bennett, one of the Rising Stars and an organizer of the Synergy Showcase, said the group was tasked with creating some sort of community project that would benefit the entire county.

The idea for the showcase came about through discussion on keeping kids local and developing the future of Seward County’s workforce.

“It all led back to hiring and being staffed and keeping the future kids that are graduating from high school in our communities,” Bennett said.

Students from Seward, Milford and Centennial high schools will set up booths to demonstrate and talk about the skills they have learned in high school – everything from screen printing to laser engraving to journalistic writing – any career path they’ve been working on, Bennett said.

“We’ve got high hopes that each school will be able to bring three to five booths,” she said.

Those wishing to attend may register at cultivatesewardcounty.com/events or may simply show up anytime during the event.

The Rising Stars leadership professionals include Bennett, representing Jones Bank, Riley Wiltfong of Jones Group, Caleb Goldsmith of ASPYR Professional Group, Alex Dodson of the Nebraska Public Power District, Taylor Cerveny of Farmers Cooperative and Jacob Jennings of the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership.

The group is facilitated by Anita Foor.
