A third Republican candidate has entered the race to be Seward County’s next sheriff.
Trey Wayne filed candidacy papers last week in the Seward County Clerk’s office, joining Tim Huntington and Troy Schaefer on the primary ballot. To date, the sheriff’s race is the only one that has enough candidates to require a primary ballot, where the party’s candidate for the general election must be selected.
Incumbents have until Feb. 17 to file their papers to seek re-election. Other candidates have until March 2.
So far, several positions are lacking any candidates and most candidates are running unopposed.
No candidates – incumbent or new – have yet filed for the positions of county assessor, county attorney, clerk of district court, Seward City Council Ward 4, Seward Airport Authority (2 positions), Milford City Council Ward 1, and Milford City Council Ward 2.
One incumbent has filed for re-election on the Milford School Board, where three seats are on the ballot this year. The situation is the same in Seward, where one incumbent has filed and three seats are on the ballot.
