Challa receives national award from Runza Restaurants

Olla Challa, assistant general manager at Runza in Milford, received national recognition from Runza this month when she received the Rock Star Award. Check out the Milford Times on May 29 to learn about what makes Challa a stand-out employee.

Donations fuel Tamora VFD
Central Valley Ag donated $500 to the Tamora Volunteer Fire Deptartment to add to the funding the department recently received through the Seward County Gives program. The Tamora Volunteer Fire Department asked Seward County residents for their financial support during the Seward County Gives campaign this month.
Tamora VFD Fire Chief Jon Propst said the department needed some new gear to ensure the best service possible for its citizens.

Seward Municipal Band opens 137th season

The Seward Municipal Band kicked off its 137th season with a concert May 26 at the Seward bandshell under the direction of Dr. Jessica Schreiner. Selections included the "Hymn to the Fallen" by John Williams, "Marches of the Armed Forces," "Highlights from Mary Poppins'" and a suite from "Pirates of the Caribbean" by Klaus Badelt.
The band rehearses Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at the Borland Center on the Concordia University campus. Concerts are Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the bandshell throughout the summer.

TODAY - Space Adventures at SML

Blast off into adventure with the Lincoln Children’s Museum’s “Out of this World” program at the Seward Memorial Library. There are back-to-back sessions at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

TOMORROW - More space adventures at SML

Attention all cosmic explorers! Prepare for an out-of-this-world adventure at the Seward Memorial Library. Play bingo with space-themed squares. Each round brings new excitement and discovery, marking off squares as we encounter fascinating space phenomena. This event begins at 1 p.m. and is geared towards K-5th grades. This free program requires no registration.

TOMORROW - Kick off July 4

The annual Seward Fourth of July Celebration Kick-Off Party will be Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska National Guard Museum. There will be the announcement and crowning of Miss Independence and Mr. Firecracker and other award announcements. The event is free, open to the public and will offer free hotdogs and cake. TOMORROW - Initiative subject of info meetings

Seward Area Lutherans for Life Chapter will present two informational meetings about the new Protect Women & Children pro-life ballot initiative at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. The public is invited to come hear Sen. Jana Hughes and others discuss what we need to know about the abortion ballot initiatives in Nebraska on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. in the St. John Fellowship Hall, and Wednesday, June 5, at 2 p.m. in the St. John Sanctuary.

SATURDAY - Rotary Gala honors service

The annual Seward Rotary Club’s “Celebration of Service” dinner/gala will be Saturday, June 1, at 5:30 p.m. at Harvest Hall on the Seward County Fairgrounds. The event celebrates the 99th anniversary of the Seward Rotary Club, presents the club's annual awards and features a cash bar, live music, a dinner by Rue 6 and a silent auction. Zohner vaults to national title

Just before the rain and thunderstorms engulfed Marion, Indiana, May 25, Concordia University Track & Field athletes closed the book on the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in memorable fashion. The biggest thrills came from the pole vault where senior Zach Zohner made it a sweep of 2024 NAIA national titles. The native of Battle Creek was one of eight Bulldogs who officially became All-Americans on the third and final day (May 24) of the championship meet. The women’s 4x4 capped the festivities by blazing to a near school record time.

With Seventh Street under construction, the ninth annual Run to St. Lo Memorial 5K will
need to run an alternate route this year. The last time the run had an alternate
route was 2019 for the flooding down in the Ag Park area. The change will not be
dramatic for 2024 but neighbors along the route need to be aware of the
Saturday, June 1, (7 a.m.) run.

FUNERAL SERVICES

DRAPER, Kenneth

Visitation for Kenneth Draper will be today from 3-8 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Dwight. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., also in Dwight. The funeral service will be at the Valparaiso United Methodist Church May 29 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Valparaiso Public Cemetery at 11 a.m.
