Two medal at state for Milford wrestling

A pair of fifth-place finishes highlighted the Class B state wrestling tournament for the Milford Eagles, ending a two-year medal drought.

Cory Langenberg (165) and Garrett Schoen (285) finished on the medal stand.

“While qualifying for the tournament is no easy feat, placing in the top 6 is even more challenging. It took a lot of work during the offseason and over the years to get here,” Coach Jonah Peterson said.

Both were 3-2 with two pins. The wre the 66th and 67th wrestlers in MHS history to earn state medals.

Jonny Kohout (126) and Quinn Zegers (138) were each 2-2 and ended one win away from the medals. Kohout lost to the third- and sixth-place medalists, Peterson said, while Zegers lost to the eventual champion and third-place medalist.

Kellen Lovitt (132) and Boen Schweitzer (175) were 0-2 but battled tough, Peterson said.

Zegers finished his career as a four-time state qualifier, two-time district finalist, four-time SNC medalis and two-time team captain (2025-26). He ended with 146 career wins, tied for fourth on the program’s all-time win list.

Schoen was a three-time state qualifier, three-time SNC champ and two-time team captain. He tallied 139 career wins, tied for sixth in program history. He also had the fifth most pins with 99 throughout his career.

“While they won’t be wrestling for us anymore, their impact and legacies will be remembered by our program until the end of time. I can’t thank them enough for all of the time and effort they put forth throughout the years,” Peterson said.

"Next season, we will return four state qualifiers/one state medalist and get several key pieces back from injury. We look forward to returning to the practice room and continuing to take the next step as a program! We're continually working to build champions on and off the mat!"
