Seward County Assessor Marilyn Hladky’s office has posted updated property valuations for the county as taxing entities prepare to submit their funding needs to taxpayers.
Hladky’s office posted new valuations for all tax entities in the county prior to the Aug. 20 deadline. Valuations for the county, cities and villages, school districts and other entities that are included in whole or in part in Seward County are included.
Seward County’s property valuation increased by $27,377,337 – or 0.66 percent – based on new development. Irrigated land values increased somewhat this year, Hladky said.
The new total – $4,547,159,902 – will be used to calculate the levy per $100 valuation for county, Ag Society and other entities’ property tax purposes. Cities, school districts, fire districts and other entities receive updated valuations annually which are used to calculate tax levies for their constituents.
County data, as well as valuations for cities, schools and other entities that include all or part of Seward County are now posted on the county’s website. The data also includes valuation for the portions of Seward County included in taxing districts for out-of-county entities, including the Malcolm and Crete School Districts, Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend and other entities.
Data for school or fire districts in Seward County that include constituents in neighboring counties list only the Seward County valuations.
Taxpayers will receive a revised “pink postcard” this year with additional information mandated by the Nebraska Legislature, which also notifies them of the Seward County “pink postcard” hearing. That has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21. In the past, this has been at the Seward County Fairgrounds.
County commissioners, local city councils, school boards and other governing bodies usually schedule their final public budget hearing in the few days after the pink postcard hearing to allow the opportunity for any changes needed before their budgets are due to the state.
While budgets are not finalized until October, the fiscal year for Seward County began July 1.
