Dennis James Fiala was born March 5, 1942, to Michael and Evelyn (Kozisek) Fiala on the farm near Bee.

He attended Dwight Assumption High School, graduating in 1960. On April 15, 1967, Dennis was united in marriage to Loretta Knap at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Valparaiso. His greatest joy was raising his nine children and spending time with his grandkids. Dennis worked for Goodyear in Lincoln for 36 years and he was involved with the workers union and served as a union steward. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Dwight American Legion Post 110. He also farmed, raised livestock and was an Archer Oil distributer.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing the accordion, including founding the Fiala-la-la Polka Band, playing at many family wedding receptions. He was a volunteer for both 4-H and FFA. Commonly when he met someone, with a smile, he would introduce himself as Dennis the Menace. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends. His life was one of service to God and his family, and always standing up and willing to provide a helping hand to others. Faith, Family, Freedom, Fun.  He was very strong in his faith. Dennis passed away Jan. 28, 2024, in Lincoln, at the age of 81.

He is survived by his children, whom all remain in Nebraska, Jim (Amy) Fiala of Valley, Larry (Mendy) Fiala of Papillion, David (Neelee) Fiala of Lincoln, Jeannie (Jason) Damm of Lincoln, Janelle (Marc) Smith of Milford, Andrea (Danny) Furasek of Valparaiso, Andy (Andrea) Fiala of Lincoln, Steve Fiala of Seward and Susie (Shane) Farr of Farnam; and 25 grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Fiala; and parents, Michael and Evelyn Fiala.
