The Milford wrestlers opened the post-Christmas part of their season Jan. 2 against tough competition. The Eagles were at David City to wrestle the Scouts, ranked No. 4 in Class C, and Syracuse, ranked No. 6 in Class B.

“We challenged the guys to come out of the gate fast and finish the second half of the season strong,” Coach Jonah Peterson said.

Milford battled Syracuse first in a dual that came down to the final match. Drake Roth won 10-5 to give the Eagles the 32-29 dual win. MHS scored bonus points in four of its seven wins, and Garrett Schoen beat Hunter Holle, ranked No. 6, for the second time.

MHS defeated David City 43-25 in the nightcap, improving to 5-1 in duals. Cory Langenberg opened the dual with a 13-8 win over the No. 10 ranked wrestler in Class C. Milford won nine of the 14 matches, with bonus points in seven.

Milford is next on the mat Friday, Jan. 9, at the Wilber-Clatonia Duals and wrestles at Central City Saturday, Jan. 10.
