The new director of administrative operations at the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership grew up in town and graduated from Seward High in 2002. Flu shot clinics will begin at the area senior centers in Milford, Seward and Utica. Shots are currently available at the Family Medical Centers, with no appointment necessary from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and in Seward on Saturday, from 8-11:30 a.m., as well. The first clinic will be Friday, Oct. 9, from 1-2 p.m. at the Seward Senior Center. On Friday, Oct. 15, from 1-2 p.m., shots will be available at the Milford Senior Center. The Utica Senior Center will host its clinic Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 10-11 a.m.

The monthly meeting of the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club will be Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. at the Seward Civic Center. The meeting will showcase the work of the local, state and national GFWC. Guests and potential new members are welcome to attend. This meeting will also have a Focus on Youth and showcase the club’s representatives for 2026 Hugh O’Brian Youth Conference. The Blue River Pet Rescue will host Barktober Fest on Sunday, Oct. 11, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Junto Winery. Tickets are $15 pre-sale, $20 at the door or $5 for kids. Featured events include a pet costume contest, a silent auction, vendors and food trucks. Proceeds benefit Blue River Pet Rescue.
The Seward Blue River Historical District will host a fall open house on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 1 – 3:30 p.m. at 2764 Izaak Walton Road. Stories about the old log cabin and Texas cattle drives will be shared, and horse and wagon rides and light snacks will be available.
On Sunday, Oct. 11, the Concordia University Wind Symphony will perform at 4 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. The performance includes a repertoire presented by the ensemble but is also a worship opportunity giving band members and the audience the opportunity to pray the Litany from the Lutheran Service Book. The performance will take place without applause to reinforce this reflection. The performance is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to support the work of the ensemble.
A gospel concert, featuring music by Cloy and Linda Stutzman, will be Sunday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the West Blue Church. A free-will offering will be accepted for the church.
A graveside service for Christine Schfoeder will be Friday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Seward Cemetery.
Family and friends of Nancy Wurm will gather Sunday, Oct. 11, from 1:30-3 p.m. at Volzke Funeral Home in Seward. A memorial service will be Monday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with inurnment to follow at Hoffer Cemetery, rural Gresham.
A memorial service for Becky Imig will be Monday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. A graveside service at the Seward Cemetery will be a 2 p.m.
The Seward boys and girls were both team champions at the Central Conference meet Oct. 8. Jackson Einspahr was the boys' race champion, and Haylen Holliday won the girls' race.
The Centennial girls were the Southern Nebraska Conference meet champion, led by Stella Steele and Nya Fischer who were second and third. Carter Fritz was 11th to lead the boys.
Macie Carter of Milford was the SNC individual girls' champion, and the girls' team was runner-up. The Milford boys finished third, led by Easton Sample in sixth place.
