Maxine Barbara Roth was born July 15, 1935, in Amenia, North Dakota, to Sam and Clara (Nitzsche) Roth, the second of four children and passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at her home in Milford at the age of 85.
As a young girl, Maxine attended and graduated from school in Hesston, Kansas, with the class of 1953. She furthered her education by attending Hesston College, majoring in education. She was united in marriage to William E. Roth on Aug. 2, 1959, and to this union, two children, Arlene and Galen, were born. They moved to West Point where Maxine was a substitute teacher in the West Point Public Schools and later taught in a rural school for several years. Besides being a stay-at-home mom, Maxine also taught piano and organ lessons for many years. They purchased and operated together a greenhouse and garden center in West Point and enjoyed many years of serving customers and growing plants and landscape material. In their retirement, they thoroughly enjoyed continuing their gardening and taking occasional trips to see family in Oregon. Maxine and Bill were caregivers for her aging mother until her eventual death at the age of 100 in 2004. She was a long-time member of the Beemer Mennonite Church.
