The Milford volleyball team had just one match on the calendar last week – a home battle against Wilber-Clatonia – before playing in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament Oct. 16 and 17.

The Eagles held off the Wolverines 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-23.

“We came out pretty slow and were not very disciplined, but we started controlling our side of the net and found success,” Coach Emily Restau said.

The Wolverines gave the team some trouble with its block early, but Milford made adjustments and saw more success, she said.

“We kept them off balance with our aggressive serving which, in return, gave us a lot of free balls and opened the net for our hitters,” Restau said.

Hannah Reynolds led the team with 14 kills, and Sydney Burkey added 11. Kylie Jakub delivered 35 assists and 10 digs, and Kira Schweitzer picked up 11 digs.

The Eagles (12-12) were to play in the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament Oct. 16 and 17. MHS opened with a  24-26, 25-18, 25-19 win over Fillmore Central and then beat Sutton 27-29, 27-25, 25-22 Oct. 16. Milford took down Superior 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 in the semifinals Oct. 17 but fell to Thayer Central 25-18, 25-21, 25-15 in the final.

MHS will be at Shelby-Rising City for a triangular Oct. 19 to close the regular season.
