Seniors go 1-2-1 at Mount Michael

Even after falling behind early, the Crete Stop ‘N Shop Seniors never gave up against Nebraska City. Unfortunately, Crete couldn’t make the comeback, losing 7-4 on June 20.

After trailing 6-0 in four innings, Crete scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings while holding NC to one run to bring the game within three.

In the seventh inning and with the game on the line, Crete couldn’t get any runs across, falling to NC.

Caden Nelson scored a run on two hits and had one RBI and Jeffrey Kuncl struck out six.

Crete then traveled to Blair on June 21 and struggled to get anything going, losing 9-0.

Blair jumped out to an early lead and didn’t slow down, scoring two runs in the first inning, four in the third and three in the fourth to end the game after holding Crete scoreless through five.

Crete then played at the Mount Michael Seniors Tournament on June 23-25 and went 1-2-1, losing to Lincoln Northwest 10-2 and ETC 5-1 on June 23, defeating Springfield 7-5 on June 24 and tying Millard 6-6 on June 25.

Against LNW, Crete gave up six runs in the third inning and four in the sixth to seal its fate.

Triston Lenhoff had a double and Carson Kotil struck out five.

Against ETC, the Cardinals struggled to get anything going offensively and gave up four runs in the first inning.

Max Connell had three hits and Nick Wendt struck out five.

Against Springfield, after being tied up 1-1, Crete exploded in the top of the sixth with six runs to secure the win.

Connell and Alex Eltze each scored a run on two hits.

Against Millard, after trailing 5-2 in three innings, Crete scored a run in each of the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to Millard’s one run in the seventh to tie the game at six.

Connell scored two runs on three hits and Everett Heath struck out four.

Crete (4-18-1) was scheduled to play at Omaha Concordia on Wednesday, June 28, at 8 p.m. and host Ralph Bishop League on Saturday, July 1, at 3 p.m.
