The Seward/Milford girls wrestled at the Cryin’ Creek Duals Dec. 22 at Weeping Water and went 2-4 in their duals.

“I felt like we wrestled good after a tough weekend,” Coach Andy Sistek said. “We had some step up and show improvement.”

Lauren Frihauf, Katelyn Jones and Ava Rediger were undefeated for the day. Frihauf pinned five of her six opponents. Rediger recorded four pins and Jones three. Josey Maas went 4-2 with three pins.

Frihauf was able to avenge a loss to Aubrey Johnson of Beatrice, pinning her in 3:13.

“That was one of her toughest matches,” Sistek said.

SM hosted Wahoo Dec. 23 for a dual to close the pre-Christmas schedule and defeated the Warriors 42-36. Sistek said Maas finished with a pin at 190 pounds to seal the win.

Sistek said the wrestlers were willing to move weights to benefit the team. For example, Rediger moved up a weight class so Jones could get a match.

“Ava had a tough loss, but she sacrificed for the team,” Sistek said. “We wrestled tough, especially since it was the fourth time in five days.”

The girls are next in action Friday, Jan. 2, at Fillmore Central.
