The Milford wrestlers had a full weekend, but the Eagles “had a fantastic showing,” Coach Jonah Peterson said.

The Eagles were at Wilber Jan. 9 for the Wilber-Clatonia Duals and went 5-0, winning the fifth duals title in the last six years. Milford beat Crete 55-21, Class D No. 8 Arapahoe 49-26, Bishop Neumann 63-18, Sutton 70-10 and Johnson County Central 50-30. That makes the Eagles 10-1 in duals this season.

Jonny Kohout, Kellen Lovitt, Quinn Zegers, Jax Hansen, Cory Langenberg, Boen Schweitzer and Garrett Schoen were undefeated on the night. Kohout, Zegers, Hansen and Schoen pinned four of their five opponents, and Schweitzer pinned all five.

Two of Lovitt’s wins came against ranked opponents, Peterson said.

The Eagles were at Central City Jan. 10 and finished as the team runner-up.

“Last year, we did not have the best showing at this tournament. Our focus this year was to embrace the back to back days of competition. I feel like we did just that,” Peterson said.

Milford had seven in the top four, led by Schoen’s gold medal at 285 pounds, and 10 in the top six. Kohout, Zegers and Hansen finished second, and Langenberg, Caleb Kempf and Teagan Zegers earned third.

“Overall, I feel like our whole team is turning a corner at the right time, and I’m excited to see what we’re made of during the remaining five weeks of competition,” Peterson said.

The Eagles will be at Gibbon Saturday, Jan. 17.
