Milford wrestling hit the road for its first matches of the season and brought home three gold medals, two dual wins, a tournament championship and a newly-minted 100-win athlete.

MHS was at Lousville Dec. 4 for duals against the Lions and Lincoln Lutheran. The Eagles beat LLHS 63-18 and Louisville 44-27. Kellen Lovitt, Quinn Zegers, Cory Langenberg, Boen Schweitzer and Garrett Schoen each won both their matches.

The Eagles were in Friend Dec. 6 for the Bob Arehart Memorial Invitational.

“We saw a lot of solid competition with ranked wrestlers from classes C and D,” Coach Jonah Peterson said.

Zegers, Langenberg and Schoen each won their weight classes to lead the Eagles to the team title. Schweitzer placed second, Lovitt and Drake Roth third and Caden Rainforth, Austin Vosta and Caleb Kempf fourth.

“Winning duals and tournaments is not easy. I am very proud of the fast start we are off to. My challenge to the guys will be to not let off the gas and learn from the mistakes we have made early on,” Peterson said.

In his first match of the day, Schoen recorded his 100th career victory, becoming the 20th Eagle to achieve that mark.

“For a kid that started wrestling in junior high, this is an incredible feat. Through a lot of hard work and dedication, he has elevated his wrestling to new heights,” Peterson said.

Schoen is currently ranked No. 3 in Class B by NEWrestle, he said.

“I have no doubt in my mind he will be aiming for the top of the podium come February,” Peterson said.

The Eagles will look to improve against county competition Thursday, Dec. 11. Seward will host the Eagles and Centennial starting at 6 p.m. Milford will wrestle in the Crete Invite Saturday, Dec. 13.
